Rosemary Dugan

Skilled in portraying the multifaceted landscape – its brilliance in the noonday sun; its gentle allure in the shadows – it is apparent that Rosemary Dugan sees light itself as the foremost theme of her work.

She has been a student of nature since her girlhood on a dairy farm and still treasures the creek and woods near her west Wichita home for their beauty and inspiration.

Today she is an established award winning pastel painter. The strength of her message lies perhaps in its simplicity and her determination to "convey feeling" that can’t be explained, yet speaks to everyone. As an impressionist, she produces strong light effects by applying her medium in short strokes of pure color, causing her art to reflect a quiet dignity and spiritual strength.

"It is that ever-changing landscape, its mystery and emotion that I strive to produce in my paintings."

Dugan earned her Bachelor of Art degree from Newman University. She has won awards in regional and national exhibitions. She is currently a member of Gallery XII, Artists’ Guild of Wichita, Mid America Pastel Society and Midwest Artists. She is a pastel instructor at the Wichita Center for the Arts and is co-owner of Artists at Old Town, where her studio is located.
