Jean Shellito graduated from the State University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

She has taken additional classes at the Chicago Art Institute, Wichita State University and the Wichita Center for the Arts. She has also attended workshops with well-known artists such as Zoltan Zabo, Tom Hill, Robert Wood and Edgar Whitney.

She is active in and a charter member of Gallery XII. She also belongs to the Kansas Watercolor Society and exhibits locally and nationally.
